Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team continues its four-match home stand, 7:00pm, Tuesday, when the Lady Govs play host to Lipscomb at Morgan Brothers Field.

Austin Peay (2-1-0) used three second-half goals Friday night to topple Appalachian State in the Lady Govs’ home opener. Junior forward Andy Quiceno netted the game-winner, her second in as many games, while junior Tatiana Ariza assisted on both the game-tying and game-winning goals. Ariza was named CollegeSportsMadness.com Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for her efforts.

Senior Emily Perkins has a goal in each of her last two contests, and is tied with junior Morgan Zigelsky for the team lead with eight shots.

“The creative play among our attacking personalities is really exciting,” said head coach Kelley Guth. “We have great chemistry, and it shows on the field.”

Senior defender Renny Robinson has played every minute of the first three matches, anchoring the backline in front of keepers Haylee Shoaff and Nikki Filippone. Shoaff played the full match Friday to earn her season’s first victory; she’s 1-1-0 with 16 saves in 2012.

One key for the Lady Govs will be maintaining focus early in the match. Austin Peay has allowed the first goal in all three matches this season, including one less than a minute into play against Appalachian State.

“I expect us to come out more disciplined (against Lipscomb)” Guth said. “We focus a lot on preparing to come out well-organized to start a match, so I was disappointed to give up the early goal against Appalachian State.”

The Lady Bisons are off to a 1-2-0 start, winning the season opener against Jackson State before dropping road matches to Xavier and Central Arkansas. Senior keeper Erin Zerio has made 16 saves and allowed just three goals so far in 2012 for first-year head coach Kevin O’Brien.

The Lady Govs earned a road shutout last season against the Lady Bisons, with five different players (Ariza, Emily Kink, Bianca Melito, Jocelyn Murdoch and Joceline Quiceno) scoring in the 5-0 clean sheet. All-time, the Lady Govs are 7-2-1 against Lipscomb and have won seven of the previous eight meetings between the two schools.

Austin Peay will host two more opponents this weekend, beginning with Gonzaga, 7:00pm, Friday, and concluding with a 2:00pm, Sunday match against Chattanooga.
