Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team ran roughshod over visiting Chattanooga, Sunday, at Morgan Brothers Field. Two goals from junior Tatiana Ariza, including the game-winner, led the Lady Govs to a 4-1 victory against the Mocs.

“It was a great game for us,” said head coach Kelley Guth. “We put the pieces of the puzzle together today. We talked after our loss Friday about executing better and they really did it today.”

After giving up early goals in their previous two losses, the Lady Govs were the first to strike on Sunday. Junior Andy Quiceno netted her season’s third goal to open scoring in the fifth minute, receiving a feed from senior Emily Perkins and burying it into the back of the net.

Chattanooga (1-3-1) would answer less than a minute later, with Hannah Wyatt scoring off of a Becca Smith corner kick.

Tatiana ArizaIn the 28th minute, Austin Peay’s (3-3-0) Tatiana Ariza scored her season’s first goal, taking a low cross from her sister Natalia and burying the shot from about 15 yards out for the eventual game-winner.

Perkins netted a goal of her own in the 56th minute, playing a deflection in the box from Taylor Van Wagner and beating the keeper for her season’s third goal. The goal gives Perkins sole possession of seventh place-all time in Lady Govs history.

Tatiana Ariza added another insurance goal in the 59th minute to cap off the scoring. She now has six career multi-goal games.

“I think Tatiana has got her timing back a little bit,” Guth said. “We knew it would take some time to transition back into our schemes and how we play. She’s getting better each game.”

Haylee ShoaffJunior keeper Haylee Shoaff was solid in the net, picking up her season’s second win. She made two saves, while Chattanooga’s Lauren Thomas made four.

Offensively, Austin Peay attacked the net for much of the day. The Lady Govs attempted a season-high 25 shots, putting eight on goal. Tatiana Ariza had eight shots, four on goal, while both Andy and Joceline Quiceno and Morgan Zigelsky took three shots and put one on net.

The Lady Govs also held a free post-match clinic for area kids. More than 30 kids participated in drills and games with Austin Peay coaches and players.

The Lady Govs next head north for a 4:00pm, Friday, match at Miami (Ohio). Austin Peay returns to Morgan Brothers Field for a three-match homestand beginning at 7:00pm, September 14th against South Alabama.
