APSU Sports: Austin Peay Men’s Basketball
Clarksville, TN – Zavion Williams, a local product who starred at West Creek High School, has begun working out with Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team after transferring from Lipscomb.
The 5-10 guard, who will sit out 2012-13 in accordance with NCAA transfer years, will have three seasons of eligibility remaining beginning in 2013-14.Williams played in 26 games as a freshman in 2011-12, averaging 9.1 points, 2.5 assists and a team-leading 1.3 steals per game. He appeared against the Govs last year, scoring four points off the bench. He did have 28 in a game against SIU Edwardsville during the Cancun Challenge.
As a prep senior at West Creek, Williams averaged 25.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.3 steals and 2.7 assists per game, leading West Creek to a 28-7 record and the school’s first state tournament appearance. He scored 37 points against Siegel High School in the state tournament quarterfinals. He also had 35 points in the region championship game against Clarksville High School.
He was named the District 10-AAA Player of the Year and to the Tennessee Sports Writer’s Association All-State team his senior year as well as to the Tennessean’s All-Midstate.
