The Governors will look to improve on their performance at the Cardinal Intercollegiate, where they finished fifth. APSU, in fact, will have nine more fall rounds to build momentum into the off-season.

Next week the Govs will play in the Hilltopper Invitational in Bowling Green, KY, before rounding out the fall with its own F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, October 22nd-23rd.

Austin Peay won the Bearcat Invitational a year ago and will battle a strong field in hopes of repeating. In addition to host Cincinnati, Ohio Valley Conference foes Belmont, Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State will be entered along with Cleveland State, Dayton, Detroit, Kentucky (four individuals), Marshall, Northern Kentucky, Wright State and Youngstown State.

Dustin KorteThe tourney, which feature 36 holes on Monday and 18 more on Tuesday, will be played on the par-71, 7,100-yard layout that is highlighted by forgiving fairways to go along with demanding roughs. The Traditions has been voted as one of Kentucky’s top 10 golf courses for 15 straight years.  It has hosted the Big East Championship, the Kentucky State Amateur and the Kentucky State Open.

The Governors again will take a team that blends veteran leadership with youth. Senior Dustin Korte, who tied for third in Louisville, will lead the Govs along with juniors Anthony Bradley and Marco Iten. Redshirt freshman Korey Smith and freshman Austin Kramer will round out the team while freshman Chris Baker will compete as an individual.

Anthony Bradley“We always enjoy going to play at Traditions,” APSU coach Kirk Kayden said. “It is a wonderful event at a great venue. With Dustin, Anthony and Marco having played there before this should help us be prepared when the tournament starts.

“Looking at the (cool) weather it will be more like spring golf this week up in the Cincinnati area. That will be a good preview for some of the conditions we will face in March.

“I think the guys are ready to compete and have a good week.”
