Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for October 7th, 2012

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

Paralympic Sport Clarksville

Paralympic Sport ClarksvilleParalympic Sport Clarksville is excited to announce the first Paralympic Archery and Shooting Event to be held at 10:00am Friday, October 12th at the Montgomery County Shooting Complex, located at 4201 Southside Road in Southside, TN. This event is open to youth and adults at least 8-years-old, including active duty service members and veterans, with physical and visual disabilities, regardless of skill level.

Paralympic Archery and Shooting will feature contests in archery, skeet and trap shooting. Participants must provide their own rifle for the shooting contests, while some equipment will be provided for the archery portion of the day. The day will also feature an auction to benefit Paralympic Sport Clarksville as well as the North Central Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.

Volunteer Opportunities Available

Clarksville GreenwayThe City of Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department invites you or your organization to help maintain our parks and to join in the beautification of our city’s parks by participating in two upcoming cleanup days:

Saturday, October 13th from 8:00am to 10:00am at The Clarksville Greenway, located at the Pollard Road Trailhead.

Join the Friends of the Blueway on October 20th from 8:00am to 10:00am at Billy Dunlop Park, located at 1930 East Boy Scout Road.

Final Concert of the 2012 Jammin’ in the Alley Series

Jammin in the AlleyThe City of Clarksville and U.S. Bank will soon be jammin’ once more, Friday, October 18th in downtown Clarksville’s Strawberry Alley. This month’s free concert will feature Ten Strings and Tom, Chris Robertson, and Tres Hombres.

Concert begins at 7:00pm. In addition to the live music, downtown restaurants will offer outdoor dining for Jammin’ in the Alley and night market patrons. Come ready to eat, dance and shop!

The Great Floating Pumpkin Patch

Indoor Aquatic Center - New ProvidencePick your pumpkin from the pool as you swim through a floating pumpkin patch at the Indoor Aquatic Center’s newest event, Saturday, October 13th, 2012.

The event is open to children ages 2-12 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm but also offers a special time for children ages 2-18 with mental and/or physical disabilities to pick their pumpkin from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Cost to attend is $3.00 per person.

In addition to the floating pumpkins, kids can also participate in a variety of other activities. Activities include the Harvest Relay in which children race to see who can “harvest” the most vegetables and the Pumpkin Roll where participants race by rolling or swimming pumpkins across the pool. Prizes and other games will also be available.

Pre-registration is available at recpro.cityofclarksville.com and is strongly encouraged.

*NEW* Aqua Climb

Indoor Aquatic Center - New ProvidenceThe Indoor Aquatic Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, opened its doors for the season, October 1st with a new addition- the Aqua Climb! The poolside recreational climbing wall provides a fun and safe water activity for kids of all ages. This new feature combines fun and fitness to challenge swimmers.

Access to the Aqua Climb requires the purchase of a $2.00 wristband.
