The three-day (Sunday-Monday-Tuesday), 54-hole tourney, hosted by Western Kentucky, will be played at the Club at Olde Stone, the site of last spring’s NCAA Regional.

The Governors are coming off a come-from-behind victory at the Bearcat Invitational earlier this week. The Govs trailed new Ohio Valley Conference member Belmont by three strokes heading into the final 18 hole at Traditions in Hebron, KY. They shot a tourney-best 286 to repeat as tourney champs. Junior Anthony Bradley tied for first with a 3-under 213, although he lost medalist honors in a playoff.

Marco ItenJunior Marco Iten tied for second with a 2-under 214 while Dustin Korte also record a Top 10 finish, rebounding from an opening-round 75 to shoot 2-under over the final 36 holes, ending with a 217.

“We hope we can continue to build on the momentum from earlier this week,” APSU coach Kirk Kayden. “We really played well over the last two rounds. We are getting closer to the team I think we can be.”

Kayden will use the same lineup that played at the Bearcat. In addition to Bradley, Iten and Korte, redshirt freshmen Korey Smith and freshman Austin Kramer will comprise the team while freshman Chris Baker will participate as an individual.

In addition to the Govs, fellow OVC foes Belmont, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Morehead State and Tennessee Tech will compete. Louisville, Akron, Charleston Southern, Louisiana Monroe and Troy will round out the 12-team field.

The par-72, 7,278-yard course will be one of the most challenging the Govs will face all season.  The Club at Olde Stone opened in Spring 2006 and it features a multitude of terrain, ranging from flood plain (Holes 2-7) to dramatic higher elevations. Olde Stone is distinguished by its playing conditions: bent-grass greens, tees and fairways.

Bradley played on Olde Stone last spring at the NCAA Regional and will be counted on to provide insight to his teammates about the course

Anthony Bradley“It should be a great test for us this week going to Old Stone,” Kayden said. “I really think this course is hard enough to host a PGA tour event.

“We are going to have to be mentally prepared to deal with the competition and the golf course this week. I am confident that our guys will be up for the challenge.”

PGA professional and WKU alum Kenny Perry is the tourney’s title sponsor. Perry played for WKU from 1979-82 and is a member of WKU’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

During his illustrious pro career, he has 14 PGA tour wins, 30 top-three finishes while being a member of both the USA 2004 and 2008 Ryder Cup teams.
