Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Groundhog Day? Déjà vu? Both would be an easy conclusion as Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team returns to action with Ohio Valley Conference contests teams it played last weekend.

The Lady Govs travel to SIU Edwardsville for a 7:00pm, Friday, contest before meeting Eastern Illinois in a 2:00pm, Saturday contest.

Austin Peay (12-12, 5-3 OVC West) moved to .500 overall with wins against both SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois last weekend. The Lady Govs downed SIU Edwardsville in three sets, Saturday, as senior outside hitter Nikki Doyle concluded an impressive week with a 21-kill outing. One day prior, Austin Peay swept Eastern Illinois in three sets but used a more balanced attack led by senior opposite side hitter Alex Sain’s 11-kill performance.

Playing conference opponents on back-to-back weekends is an unusual twist and Austin Peay head coach Taylor Mott is certainly aware of the perils of playing teams in consecutive weeks.

“This won’t be an easy weekend because both teams have a recent memory of their performance against us,” said Mott. “We have to be prepared for a different test this week as I expect both teams to make adjustments. I have been encouraged by our ability to get a lot of our hitters involved. Nikki had a great week last week but we were still able to involve our other hitters, which is a tribute to Cami (Fields) hard work this season.”

The Lady Govs two victories last week helped them gain a margin of separation from the OVC West pack as their 5-3 league mark places them alone in second place. However, the margin is a slim one-game leadover UT Martin and only two games ahead of SIU Edwardsville. Austin Peay remains three games back of division-leading Southeast Missouri which boasts an unblemished 8-0 conference mark.
