Pumpkin Lady Labors for Love

Clarksville, TN – Perched on a hay bale, Clarksville’s very own Pumpkin Lady supervised an assembly line of workers ranging in age from 6 to 60 as they unloaded and carefully placed the first shipment of 617 pumpkins at St. Bethlehem United Methodist Church (UMC) on September 30th.
For Kitty Seay, each one of these pumpkins is precious cargo, because each one of them holds the power to change lives.
From October 2nd through Halloween night, Seay can be found in her lawn chair at the St. Bethlehem UMC Pumpkin Patch. From Girl Scout troops, to businesses to families, Ms. Kitty, the “Pumpkin Lady” assists each in finding the perfect pumpkins.
The hours are long and the weather can pose challenges, but this “ Pumpkin Lady” has a mission to accomplish. Sponsored by the St. B UMC United Methodist Women (UMW), the profits from the Pumpkin Patch are donated to support mission projects like Urban Ministries, Loaves and Fishes, Meals on Wheels, Miriam’s Promise, Bethlehem Centers of Nashville, Helping Hand Fund, Safe House, and Crisis Pregnancy Center among others.
According to Seay, “I’ve working the Pumpkin Patch for seven years. As a member of the UMW, I want to support all ministries that we help through the pumpkin sales. I really do it because I love the kids that come by; I love this church and I love the Lord.”
“Pumpkin Patches have been a United Methodist tradition for years” explains Margaret A. Fisher, President of the St B UMC UMW and incoming president of the Tennessee Conference UMW. “Across the country you will find Pumpkin Patches at United Methodist churches to raise money for missions and programs to serve their communities. The St. B Pumpkin Patch is special, though, because Clarksville shoppers know Ms. Kitty will always be there to help them find their perfect pumpkin!”
Ms. Kitty and the St B UMC Pumpkin Patch can be found in the church lot on the corner of Old Russellville Pike and Rossview Road at 2201 Old Russellville Pike, Monday through Fridays, 11:00am until 7:00pm and on Saturdays, 9:00am until 6:00pm through Halloween Night.
The Pumpkin Patch is closed on Sundays but can open immediately following church services for members or visitors. On Sundays, Traditional Worship is held at 9:00am, 10:00am for Sunday School and small groups, and Crossfire Modern Worship is at 11:00am. The community is always welcome!
