Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for October 21st, 2012

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include:

  • Youth Basketball League Team Evaluations
  • Open House Night at the Kleeman Community Center
  • *NEW* Creepy Carnival
  • Basketball (Open Gym)
  • Christmas Parade

Youth Basketball League Team Evaluations

BasketballTeam evaluations for all registered participants will take place the following dates and times at the Kleeman Community Center: October 22nd at 6:00pm for ages 7-8 and 7:00pm for ages 9-10, October 23rd at 6:00pm for ages 11-12 and 6:45pm for ages 13-15. It is mandatory for all participants and coaches to attend.

Coaches only are required to attend the team drafts on October 25th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Freedom Point, located at Liberty Park.

Open House Night at the Kleeman Community Center

The Kleeman Community Center

The Kleeman Community Center invites the public to see what the Center has to offer! The Kleeman Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, will be holding an Open House on Thursday, October 25th from 4:30pm to 7:00pm.

Families are encouraged to visit the Center and enjoy refreshments and an exhibit of the New Providence Middle School Art Club’s fall artwork while exploring the opportunities offered at the Kleeman Center.

The Kleeman Center offers a variety of after school programs for those holding a Community Center ID card. Center IDs are $5.00 per person and are valid for an entire year at any of the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department’s three community centers. Discounted pricing is available for families with multiple children.

*NEW* Creepy Carnival

Kleeman Haunted MansionCome for a night of fun and frights at the Kleeman Community Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane. The carnival will take place Friday, October 26th from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.

Kids of all ages can enjoy inflatables, a haunted maze, refreshments, and more- at no cost!

Basketball (Open Gym)

The City’s three community centers invites the public, ages 17 and older, to play organized pick-up basketball games during the following days and times:

  • Burt-Cobb Center: Monday/Tuesday from 6:00pm to 8:45pm and Saturday from 11:00am to 2:45pm
  • Kleeman Center: Monday/Wednesday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm
  • Crow Center: Wednesday from 5:00pm to 9:00pm and Friday from 4:00pm to 6:00pm

There is no cost to participate, but a center ID card ($5.00/year) is required.

Santa Claus closes out the 2011 Lighted Christmas Parade

Register today for the 53rd Annual Christmas Parade, hosted by The City of Clarksville, Montgomery County Government and Agero. The parade will be a night-time, lighted parade, scheduled for December 1st, 2012 beginning at 5:00pm. This year’s theme is “Christmas around the World”. This year’s parade will feature both the Austin Peay State University Band and the Tennessee State University Band, dozens of businesses and organizations, as well as Santa Clause.

Parade entry forms are available at the city’s three community centers, the Parks and Recreation office, and online at www.mcgtn.org. You can also log on to recpro.cityofclarksville.com to register.

The cost to enter is $30.00 for all entries except churches and civic groups. All entries must also be accompanied by an unwrapped new toy, non-perishable food items, or grocery store gift cards valued at $25.00. These will be collected the day of the parade. Church and civic groups need only donate the donation valued at $25.00 for entry.

Deadline to enter is November 29th.
