The Wags to Witches Fur Ball Bash had another howlingly successful year

Clarksville, TNWags to Witches Fur Ball BashThe Clarksville-Montgomery County Humane Society transformed the Riverview Inn Ballroom on October 20th into a ghoulish place, but one with an important purpose. It was to serve as the site of the 6th Annual Wags to Witches Fur Ball Bash. The fund raising event drew 150 people many of them in costume to help raise money to help fund the operations of the local chapter of the Humane Society for another year.

Nearly $13,000 was raised. $3,616 of that was through the Mr & Miss Wags to Witches Pet Photo Contest, and another $4,000 through the live and silent auctions. six local companies sponsored tables for their employees and guests. “This event could not happen without the support of local businesses and individuals who donate items for our auctions, as well others who donating their services to help support the event such as advertising, linens, photography, and the free beer.” said Humane Society President Stacey Hopwood.

Hopwood went on to thank all of the people who made the event possible, “The Wags to Witches Fur Ball Bash is the product of many, many hours spent by numerous volunteers who created, then installed the decorations, who solicited and organized the auction items, and especially those who prepared and served the food… The list goes on, and on behalf of the Humane Society, I cannot thank them all enough.”

Among those who were responsible for the evenings success were the American Culinary Federation of Clarksville, The Leaf Chronicle, The Riverview Inn, Budweiser of Clarksville, Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan, Planters Bank, Pet People Blog, Photographers Tina Hartman and Bill Larson, and DJ Scott Chase. That’s not counting the many donors, attendees, volunteers, and pet photo contestants. “We attribute this success to all of you and are proud to be worthy of such support!” she said.

The American Culinary Association of Clarksville (spearheaded by Wendell Hensley & George Hartman) along with the APSU culinary program students served up some incredible food for the event, including Fondue fountains,Spinach and Artichoke Dip & Roasted Red Pepper dip served with Pita Chips; Salmon and Crème Fraiche Crostini; Roast Beef & Horse Radish Crostini; Olive Tampenade; Tomato Basil Brushetta Crostini; Antipasto; Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce; & lots more kept anyone from leaving hungry! Budweiser of Clarksville provided free draft beer.

“Clarksville Linen Rentals did all of the table linens inside of the ballroom for free this year, which was really awesome,” added Amy Shaver, the Executive Director of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Humane Society.

The photo contest was heated with owners trying to top each other and see who could get the biggest donation to enable their pet to take the title Mr and Miss Wags to Witches 2012. Sheba Birdsong owned Roxanne “Skeeter” Birdsong was selected the Queen and The Herman owned by Lesa Kurk was the King. They will both receive a 100.00 gift certificate for a pet painting or photo session with Picture Your Photo Photography and Art, and share space on the cover of the 2013 Humane Society Calendar.

The other eight finalists will receive a free profession pet portrait photo session with Picture Your Photo Photography, A month inside the Calendar, and a gift bag crammed packed with goodies, and a framed photo of their pet.

The 2013 Calendars are expected to be available before Thanksgiving. They make great Christmas gifts a nd are another easy way to help raise money for needy pets in our community. Below is a peek at the 2011 calendar’s pages.
