Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department wants to remind drivers about the rules of the road for Overtaking and Passing School Buses which falls under Tennessee Code Annotated-55-8-151:
Vehicles are required to stop meeting or overtaking any school bus with the lights flashing and stop sign extended in both directions on a highway and property owned, operated, or used by a school or educational institution. Exceptions: When the school bus is on a separated roadway which has a space not suitable to vehicle traffic (e.g. Hwy 76, Ted Crozier Boulevard, Portions of Warfield Boulevard) or on a controlled access highway and the school bus is stopped in a loading zone that is part of or adjacent to the highway and pedestrians are not permitted to cross the roadway.
The fines can range from $250.00-$1,000.
