Nikki Doyle becomes Austin Peay Lady Govs Volleyball’s first three-time All-OVC pick

Ohio Valley ConferenceBrentwood, TN – Senior outside hitter Nikki Doyle became the first Austin Peay State University volleyball player to receive three first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference honors when she was selected to the 2012 All-OVC team, Wednesday.

Doyle was the only Austin Peay volleyball player named to the 14-member All-OVC team. Morehead State’s Ellie Roberson was the league’s Player of the Year and led the balloting on the squad.

Doyle, of Santa Maria, CA, finished the regular-season with 422 kills, becoming the first APSU volleyball player to record three 400-kill seasons during their career. She finished conference play with an impressive 247 kills, second most in the league, and a .222 attack percentage. Her 3.64 kills per set this season ranks sixth all-time at Austin Peay.

“I believe it is an honor Nikki deserves,” said Lady Govs head coach Taylor Mott. “She has proven herself the last three years. She’s been a solid performer for us and we’re a better team when Nikki is playing well.”

During the 2012 season, Doyle set the Austin Peay single-match record with a 34-kill performance against Middle Tennessee, October 10th. It was part of a 60-kill week that also saw her earn honors from the Tennessee Sports Writers Association. Doyle also set a career-high with 24 digs against Southeast Missouri, November 3rd.

Austin Peay continues its 2012 campaign with a 3:30pm (CT), Thursday first-round contest against Tennessee State in the OVC Volleyball Championship at Morehead, KY.
