He was named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s All-State Class AA team as a pitcher in 2011, compiling a 7-2 record and 1.75 ERA. Powell was ranked the No. 40 prospect in Tennessee by PerfectGame.org. During the summer, Powell played for the Dulins Dodgers summer baseball program.

“Caleb is a big strong right handed pitcher whose future is very bright in our program,” said Austin Peay head coach Gary McClure. “We expect Caleb to come in and compete for one of the spots at the top of our pitching staff. He has great stuff on the mound and he competes. We know exactly what we are getting with Caleb and we couldn’t be any happier that he has signed with us.”
