Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for November 18th, 2012

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include:

  • Storytellers program continues
  • Deadline for the 53rd Annual Christmas Parade is November 29th
  • Traditional karate classes are underway
  • Visit with Santa

Storytellers program continues

The Kleeman Community Center and the Leadership Enlightenment Academic Achievement and Perseverance Organization (L.E.A.P.) will present Storytellers on November 20th from 6:00pm until 7:00pm at the Kleeman Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane. Each month, children and parents can enjoy interactive story time as the storytellers bring to life stories from cultures across the globe.

This month’s program will feature the stories “The Night Before Thanksgiving,” by Natasha Wing and “The Relatives Came” by Cynthia Rylant. Refreshments will be served.

This program is free, but a Community Center ID card is required. ID cards can be purchased for $5.00 (good for one year at all three centers) at any of the centers or the Main Office. For families with multiple children, the 1st child is $5.00, 2nd child is $3.00, 3 or more children is $2.00. Daily visitor’s passes are available for only $1.00!

Deadline for the 53rd Annual Christmas Parade is November 29th

Register today! This year’s parade, hosted by The City of Clarksville, Montgomery County Government and Agero, will be a night-time, lighted parade on December 1st, 2012 beginning at 5:00pm. This year’s theme is “Christmas around the World”.

Parade entry forms are available at the city’s three community centers, the Parks and Recreation office, and online at www.mcgtn.org. You can also log on to recpro.cityofclarksville.com to register. The cost to enter is $30.00 for all entries except churches and civic groups.

All entries must also be accompanied by an unwrapped new toy, non-perishable food items, or grocery store gift cards valued at $25.00. These will be collected the day of the parade.

Church and civic groups need only donate the donation valued at $25.00 for entry.

Traditional karate classes are underway

The Crow Community Center and Okawa Baize Karate have partnered to host karate classes for children and adults. Classes are held at the Crow Community Center, located at 211 Richview Road.

Karate for children ages 7 to 12 is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00pm to 6:00pm and Saturdays from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Classes for ages 13 and older are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturdays from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. Cost is $75.00 per month with a Community Center ID card but may be prorated for those registering mid-month.

Visit with Santa

Join us at one of our many events (listed below) for the opportunity to visit with Santa. Parents don’t forget your cameras!

Christmas on the Cumberland

Cost is Free

November 23rd & 24th, December 14th, 15th, 21st and 22nd, beginning at 5:00pm at McGregor Park

Pictures with Santa

Cost is Free

December 10th from 6:00pm to 7:00pm at the Crow Community Center

December 12th from 5:00pm to 6:00pm at the Kleeman Community Center

December 13th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Burt-Cobb Community Center

Swim with Santa

Cost is $5.00 (includes pool admission)

December 15th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Indoor Aquatic Center

December 16th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Indoor Aquatic Center
