Youth Employment Opportunity Deadline Approaching

Clarksville, TN – The LEAP Organization, Daymar Institute, Kohls, Manna Cafe, Montgomery County Youth Services, and Youth Employment Services have partnered to operate a Youth Career Development Program. The program is open to youth ages 15 to 18, and begins on January 5th, 2013 with the deadline to apply being December 7th, 2012.

The goal of the program is to prepare youth to be able to successfully obtain employment by providing interview technique coaching, resume writing instructions, provide relevant work experience, and job placement assistance with employers.

All applicants must complete an application, undergo an interview, and be selected. The program includes 6 weeks paid classroom instruction at Daymar Institute on Saturdays for 2 hours. 6 weeks paid feeding the hungry with Manna  Café on Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday for 2 to 3 hours each day. Hourly wages are  $7.50 to $10.00 based on attendance/performance.

The duration of the program is 12 weeks. It will end with a ceremony at which students will receive a certificate of completion. During this ceremony participants will be able to share what they learned from their experience and take part in speed interviews with potential employers.

City Councilman Richard "Reason" Garrett has gained extensive business knowledge and negotiating skills as the Executive Director of the LEAP Organization.  LEAP Org provides youth development services.  As a licensed realtor for Keller Williams Realty, he is known for his tenacity, perseverance, honesty, and fairness.  A proud APSU alum, Richard graduated with Honors with a Bachelors in Public Management.
Richard is a former active duty Marine, father of 4, and a husband with strong ties to the community. He is a graduate of Leadership Clarksville and a member of Clarksville Rotary, Clarksville Area Ministerial Association, Chamber of Commerce, Clarksville Association of Realtors Public Relations & Charity Relations Committees, and Clarksville Community Partners Group.
