Clarksville Police reports Man Looking for Good Deal Gets More Than He Bargained For

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – A man, Timothy John Spalding, claimed on November 20th, 2012, around 3:20am, that he was robbed by an unknown male in the vicinity of Ernest Shelton Drive.

He told officers that he had been hit in the head with a handgun, and when he regained consciousness that he had been robbed of $580.00. A investigation into the robbery by Detective Dave Bramel revealed the truth.

He had never been robbed, did not lose consciousness, and the money had been voluntarily given to a man. Furthermore, it was discovered that Spalding had went to the Ernest Shelton Drive in an effort to purchase a handgun off the street because he could get a good deal.

He gave a man $580.00 to purchase a handgun, but when he opened the bag in which the gun was supposed to be in, there was no handgun inside. At that time, Spalding started making serious threats involving a firearm, at which time, he was assaulted. That’s when he called 911 and claimed he was robbed.

Initially, there was a man identified as a suspect in the robbery, but when the information was distributed through media channels, witnesses came forward and divulged the true facts in the case resulting in the False Report charge.

On December 3rd, 2012, around 2:00pm, Timothy John Spalding Jr. was booked into Montgomery County Jail and charged with False Report.
