Warfield School Items Needed for South Guthrie Community Center renovation

Montgomery CountyMontgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Government is currently renovating the South Guthrie Community Center, located at 5025 Guthrie Road and is seeking historic artifact donations.

The community center was the former Warfield School, built in 1922, with Rosenwald School funds. The county wishes to incorporate the rich heritage of this site within the renovation, by creating a “museum” portion within the historical structure.

The South Guthrie Community Center groundbreaking ceremony held on May 24th, 2012.

We are in need of items from former students that attended the Warfield School.  Items such as report cards, programs, books or photographs would be a great addition to the project, along with any other school related items. Original items or copies are both suitable.

Those wishing to donate items can contact the Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department at 931.648.5732.

The South Guthrie Community Center celebrates its 90th anniversary this year, along with the 100th anniversary of the Rosenwald School initiative. The site serves as the home of the South Guthrie Improvement Association.
