Clarksville, TN | Dunn Center (7,257)
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay women’s basketball team will put its three-game home win streak on the line when it hosts Lipscomb in a 7:00pm, Friday contest at the Dunn Center that will wrap up its pre-Christmas slate.
The Lady Govs return to the friendly confines – where they are 3-1 this season – following a disappointing 75-44 loss at Arkansas State, Sunday.
Lipscomb visits Clarksville seeking its first road win this season, the Bisons bring a two-game losing streak into Friday’s contest. The road team has won the last three meetings in the series, APSU winning a 61-58 affair in Nashville last season.
Austin Peay’s three wins have come in the friendly confines of the Dunn Center (3-1) as it has not posted a win away from home this season (0-6). The Lady Govs haven’t shot the ball well this season, making just 38.1 percent of their shots during the season, but have topped 40 percent five times.
Rebounding also has been a concern in the early going, with the team racking up a minus-9.0 rebounding margin. Nine APSU players have played in every contest. Austin Peay has won the turnover battle in five games and owns a plus-1.9 turnover margin.
Five players are averaging six or more points per game, with two players averaging double figures (Meghan Bussabarger and Leslie Martinez at 11.6 and 10.4 points per game, respectively).
Lipscomb’s lone win this season was a 67-54 victory against OVC member Jacksonville State and it is 1-3 against OVC schools this season with losses to Murray State, Belmont and Tennessee State. The Bisons are winless on the road but have played at Texas Tech, Mississippi and Georgia as part of their five-game road slate.
Hannah Phillips leads the team in scoring (12.3 ppg) and rebounding (6.2 rpg) and has been deadly from long range, making 41.1 percent of her three-point tries, but has struggled inside the arc, making only 21.5 percent (14-of-65) of those shots. Presley Stastny scored 16 points at Tennessee State, Monday, and enters Friday’s contest averaging 10 points per game.
Be its fourth straight home win… make it 4-1 at the Dunn Center this season… be its second-straight win against Lipscomb… be its fourth non-conference win, equalling the best non-conference win total during the Daniels era… make it 3-2 in December… improve Daniels’ record to 76-123 overall… make the Lady Govs 429-596 overall since 1976-77.
End its three-game home win streak… make it 3-2 at the Dunn Center in 2012-13… be its second straight loss to Lipscomb at the Dunn Center… make it 2-3 in December… drop Daniels’ record to 75-124 overall… make the Lady Govs 428-597 overall since 1976-77.
The final game before the Christmas holiday has been a tough one for the Lady Govs who are 1-5 in the previous six games that wrapped up the pre-Christmas schedule. Friday’s contest will be the third straight home game prior to Christmas and they are 1-1 in the two previous affairs – defeating Morehead State in 2010-11 before losing to Alabama A&M last season.
Lady Govs At Arkansas State
Austin Peay’s offense could not shake off the rust of an eight-day break, shooting just 27 percent from the floor – its second lowest field goal percentage this season. The Lady Govs tied a season low with three three-pointers made and shot only 13 percent from outside the arc.
Austin Peay did grab a season-high 18 offensive rebounds and outscored Arkansas State, 13-9, on second-chance opportunities. The Lady Govs posted double-digit steals (11) for the third consecutive game and for the sixth time in its last seven outings. APSU was credited with a season-low seven assists.
Senior Meghan Bussabarger and freshman Alexis Hardaway each had eight points and four rebounds… sophomore Shelby Olszewski led the team with five rebounds in her 14 minutes played. Senior Leslie Martinez made a three-pointer for the fourth consecutive game and finished with seven points and four rebounds.
