Clarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include:

• New Tai Chi Program
• Part Time Associate Historical Interpreter needed
• Indoor Aquatic Center to host New Year’s Eve Bash
• New session of Olympic Style Archery to start at the Kleeman Center

New Tai Chi Program

Crow Community Center introduces Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s first-ever Tai Chi program

The Crow Community Center, located at 211 Richview Road, will host a brand-new program this New Year, Tai Chi for Arthritis! Tai Chi for Arthritis will take place Tuesdays from 3:00pm to 4:00pm beginning January 8th.

Instructed by Stuart Bonnington, this program is open to adults of any age who may be suffering from arthritis. Bonnington is certified by the Arthritis Foundation as an instructor of their Tai Chi for Arthritis program.

According to the Arthritis Foundation, Tai Chi is an ancient practice proven to reduce pain and improve your mental and physical well-being. This program uses gentle Sun-style Tai Chi routines that are safe, easy to learn and suitable for every fitness level. Tai Chi reduces stress, increases balance and flexibility, relaxes and improves overall mind, body and spirit.

Cost is $20.00 for the entire 8-week program. Participants can register at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Main office as well as online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com.

Part Time Associate Historical Interpreter needed

Fort Defiance Civil War Park & Interpretive Center

The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for the part-time Associate Historical Interpreter position. The Associate Historical Interpreter will assist the Historical Interpreter with leading tours at Fort Defiance and in the daily operation of the Interpretive Center and park site.

The Interpreter will provide assistance in researching and interpreting the daily lives of Civil War soldiers, Clarksvillians, and other County residents during the early to mid-1800s and the effects the Civil War had upon them (economic, social, religious, cultural, etc.).

Indoor Aquatic Center to host New Year’s Eve Bash

Cheers to a splashing new year! Visit the Indoor Aquatic Center at New Providence this New Year’s Eve for the 2nd annual New Year’s Eve Splash! The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a New Year’s Eve pool party from 8:30pm to 12:30am on Monday, December 31st.

Party-goers can enjoy music, refreshments and free access to “The Aqua Run” wibit and “The Aqua Climb” climbing wall. Cost to attend this event is $3.00.

This event is open to all ages, though minors ages 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian after 10:00pm.

New session of Olympic Style Archery to start at the Kleeman Center

A new session of Olympic Style Archery will begin January 8th at the Kleeman Community Center. Pre-registration is underway online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com. The 8-week class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. Cost is $45.00 for the entire 8-week session.

This archery course teaches a strong foundation in the sport of archery to youth in grades 4-12. Class sizes are limited so sign up today! If you are interested in participating in the Kleeman Center’s Olympic Style Archery but won’t be able to participate in this session, another session will be available beginning in March.

Calling all chocolate lovers to the first-ever Chocolate Affair

The City of Clarksville and Planters Bank are excited to present the first-ever Chocolate Affair from 6:00pm to 9:00pm Saturday, February 9th at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center.

Chocolate lovers can indulge in a delicious evening sampling chocolate from vendors while enjoying entertainment.

Admission is only $12.00 per person thru December 31st.  Tickets can be purchased at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Main office or online by visiting www.cityofclarksville.com/chocolateaffair and clicking on the “Buy Tickets” link. Tickets will be $15.00 if purchased after December 31st. Tickets are limited, so purchase yours today!
