New Program Seeks Mentors

The deadline for those wishing to volunteer as mentors has been extended! Volunteer mentors are needed for the upcoming Dream Chasers Group Mentoring Program. Mentors will be working with at-risk youth, ages 13-17 in a small group atmosphere. Small group leaders, guided by professionals, will mentor youth as they discuss dealing with negative influences that affect teens and will promote making healthy and informed decisions.

Mentors must be at least 18-years-old. The program accepts both male and female mentors but is in need of more male mentors. The Dream Chasers program will meet Tuesdays from 4:00pm until 5:30pm at the Burt-Cobb Community Center, beginning January 22nd, 2013.

If interested, please contact Joseph Bailey by phone at 931.645.7476 or by e-mail, joseph.bailey@cityofclarksville.com [1]. Mentor spots are limited.

*NEW* Cumberland Arts Experience

The Kleeman Community Center is excited to offer a new program, the Cumberland Arts Experience, beginning Saturday, January 26th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. This program will teach basic painting skills as participants paint along with an instructor to create a piece of art they can take home with them.

Classes are held monthly from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and feature a different painting, all inspired by things and places in the Cumberland region. January’s painting will be “Dawn at the Greenway”. Cost is $35.00 per class and includes paint & canvas.

The Cumberland Arts Experience is much more than a painting class, but an entire night of fun as participants will be treated to light music, “mocktails” and food tastings from local chef Kristina Waters.

Pre-registration is required and available online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com. If you can’t make the January class, the next two classes will take place Saturday, February 23rd and Saturday, March 23rd.
