Austin Peay Governors Basketball’s Travis Betran earns OVC Newcomer of the Week Award for second straight week

Clarksville, TN – For the second consecutive week and the fifth time this season Austin Peay State University [1] guard Travis Betran has been named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week.
The junior from Harlem, NY, averaged 23.5 points/game in two outings last week in leading APSU to a split. In APSU’s first OVC win, 84-81, against Morehead State, Betran hit the game-winning fall-away three pointer at the overtime buzzer.
[2]He finished the game 3-of-6 from three-point line and 7-of-7 at the free-throw line in tallying 20 points.
Against Murray State, Betran finished with 27 points, including 5-of-11 from the three-point line. He especially came up big in the final minute when APSU’s rally just fell short. However, Betran connected on a trio of three pointers in the final 52 seconds, including one that became a four-point play.
Betran has scored 20 or more points in all four OVC games this season, averaging 24.8 points/game. He currently is ranked 13th nationally in three-point field goal percentage (47.4 percent) and 17th in three-pointers made per game (3.06).
APSU will return to action this weekend when it plays host to SIU Edwardsville, 7:00pm, Thursday, before facing Eastern Illinois, 7:30pm, Saturday.
