APSU Sports: Austin Peay Football
Clarksville, TN – Rick Christophel, Austin Peay State University’s football coach the last six seasons, has been offered the job as tight ends coach with the Arizona Cardinals.

“We are aware that Rick has been offered the job,” APSU Athletics Director Dave Loos said. “Although he has not signed a contract at this point, it is my understanding his intention is to do so.”
Christophel owns a 20-46 record at his alma mater, a 1975 graduate who started three seasons as Govs quarterback. Prior to accepting his first head-coaching assignment at his APSU, he spent more than a dozen seasons at UAB. From 1991-94, he worked at Mississippi State, where he was a coaching associate of Bruce Arians, the new Arizona Cardinals head coach.
Christophel became APSU’s 17th head coach in Spring 2007, replacing Carroll McCray. The Govs went 7-4 in his first season, including 5-3 in the OVC. The Govs owned a 2-9 record in 2012, finishing the season with a 38-31 victory against Tennessee Tech.
