“We are aware that Rick has been offered the job,” APSU Athletics Director Dave Loos said. “Although he has not signed a contract at this point, it is my understanding his intention is to do so.”

Prior to accepting his first head-coaching assignment at his APSU, he spent more than a dozen seasons at UAB. From 1991-94, he worked at Mississippi State, where he was a coaching associate of Bruce Arians, the new Arizona Cardinals head coach.

Christophel became APSU’s 17th head coach in Spring 2007, replacing Carroll McCray. The Govs went 7-4 in his first season, including 5-3 in the OVC.  The Govs owned a 2-9 record in 2012, finishing the season with a 38-31 victory against Tennessee Tech.
