Austin Peay Employees share latest accomplishments

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University recently announced a number of publications, conferences and credentials as part of their professional and scholarly activities.

Dr. Sharon Mabry, professor of music, had her new book, “The Performing Life: A Singer’s Guide to Survival,” featured in the book review section of the latest Journal of the IAWM (International Alliance for Women in Music). The review listed her book as one of three recommended for reading. In addition, her book was noted in a review published in the Library Journal.Dr. Grace Moodt, associate professor of nursing, recently earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. The title of her capstone project was “Effectiveness of Using an Evaluation Tool in Simulation to Improve Nursing Students’ Ability to Achieve Learning Outcomes.”

Dr. Kristy Reed, assistant director of Boyd Health Services and a nurse practitioner, recently earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Frontier Nursing University. The title of her capstone project was “Improving Depression Management in the University Health Center.”

Dr. Michelle Robertson, associate professor of nursing, recently earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. The title of her capstone project was “The Impact of Peer-led, Problem-based Learning Exercises on the Critical Thinking Skills of First-semester Baccalaureate Nursing Students.”

Gregory R. Singleton, associate vice president and dean of students, recently presented a keynote address at the Number I’s Leadership Institute for Kappa Alpha Order National Fraternity in Carey, NC. His presentation was titled, “College, Careers, and Leadership: Kappa Alpha Order and Our Path to Success.” Singleton serves as the national scholarship officer for Kappa Alpha Order and under his leadership the fraternity has continued to set new academic records on an annual basis. In addition, he was selected as one of two higher education professionals to serve on the strategic planning task force for Pi Kappa Phi National Fraternity, headquartered in Charlotte, NC.

Dr. Carter F. Smith, faculty member in the department of public management and criminal justice, along with Dr. Jeff Rush of Troy University and Dr. Catherine Burton with The Citadel, recently had an article, titled “Street Gangs, Organized Crime Groups, and Terrorists: Differentiating Criminal Organizations,” published in the Investigative Sciences Journal, January 2013.

Dr. Gregg Steinberg, professor of health and human performance, is now a weekly columnist for the PGATour.com on the mental game.
