St. Louis, MO – Patrik Berglund was racing down the right side when Mike Fisher came from behind and tripped him right as he made a cut to the goal. Berglund was awarded a penalty shot.
He managed to beat Pekka Rinne with a wrist shot at 9.26 into the second period to give the St. Louis Blues a 2-0 lead in the game over the Nashville Predators [1].
The Blues went on to beat the Predators 3-0 at the Scottrade Center Thursday night.Berglund’s goal seem to let the air out of the Predators. With a 2-0 advantage, St. Louis went into a lock down defense limiting Nashville to 13 shots on goal for the game. The Preds had only three shots on goal in the first period. There was a 16:10 gap between their first and second shots.
The Blues got their first goal in the first period at 12:59 when T.J. Oshie got a wrist shot past Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne’s outstretched pad on a power play to give the Blues a 1-0 lead. Berglund was working the front of the goal and managed to knock the puck to Oshie.
Vladimir Tarasenko added his fourth goal in four games when he beat Rinne coming in off a weak-side line change after taking Alex Steen’s pass from the half-wall
At 9:04 into the third period, St. Louis’ Vladimir Tarasenko takes a pass from Alex Steen and beats Rinne to give the Blues a 3-0 advantage.
The winning goaltender was St. Louis’ Jaroslav Halak with 13 shots stopped in the game. It was also his 24th career shutout.
Pekka Rinne stopped 24 shots for the Predators.
The Predators need to find a way to crack the stingy defense of the Blues as they meet again in St. Louis on Tuesday, February 5th to end their seven game road trip. The St. Louis Blues have only allowed 27 shots on goal and no goals in their first two home games of the season.
The Nashville Predators continue their seven game road trip as they face the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center Saturday, January 26th. The puck drops at 9:30pm (CT)
