Montgomery County EMS to go “Red” for February

Montgomery County [1]Clarksville TN -  February is American Heart Month, and the Montgomery County EMS will show their support by temporarily changing their uniform shirts to red for the entire month.

On February 1st, the American Heart Association marks the 10th year of their “Go Red for Women” movement.  While there has been significant progress in the fight against heart disease, there’s still a long way to go.The AMA reports:

Heart disease kills more women than men, at an average rate of one death per minute.

Heart disease is still the number 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year.

Heart disease kills more women than all kinds of cancer combined.

American Heart Association [2]In Montgomery County, to better educate the community, Jimmie Edwards, EMS Director says, “Here in Montgomery County, to better educate our community on the prevention and early detection of heart disease, helping save lives and improving the overall health of our community is our goal.  We encourage men and women alike to join us in our efforts by attending our events or simply wearing red.”

There will be several events for the public to attend:

A community education and blood pressure event at Emmanuel Family Life Center, 303 Fairview Lane, on Friday, February 1st from 6:00pm-8:30pm.  This event is hosted by Montgomery County EMS and Vanderbilt Heart and is free and open to the  public.

National Wear Red Day, Friday, February 1st, urges participation by wearing red to increase awareness on heart disease in women.

A Community Education Event hosted by Montgomery County EMS on Saturday, February 2nd in the center court of Governor’s Square Mall from 11:00am-4:00pm.  This is a free event and will feature risk factors of heart disease, CPR education, signs and symptoms of a heart attack, healthy living information and what you can do to join in the fight against heart disease.
