APSU Sports: Austin Peay Men’s Tennis
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team hosts its first 2013 home dual meet, 1:00pm, Saturday, against Southern Illinois at the APSU Tennis Center.
The Govs enter the match after losing its season-opener at Samford, last weekend. Junior Jasmin Ademovic won his No. 2 singles draw, and teamed up with senior Sean Bailey to pick up a No. 1 doubles victory. However, the remainder of the squad struggled and Austin Peay fell 5-2 to the Bulldogs.“We were very close last week,” said head coach Ross Brown. “Samford is a great team. Jasmin played great for us. Sean put some pressure on himself, but when he’s relaxed few are better than he is.
“We didn’t play poorly last week; overall, I was very pleased. We had a lot of good movement in doubles play, which the guys have really bought into. We should continue that this week.”
Southern Illinois is pretty far into its season already. Since opening 2013 with January’s Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships, the Salukis have lost to Wisconsin (8-1) and defeated UMKC (5-2).
“We’re looking forward to this weekend,” Brown said. “Southern Illinois is always extremely competitive.”
In Austin Peay’s last meeting with Southern Illinois Ademovic, Bailey and Dimitar Ristovski swept the top three singles spots and Austin Peay pulled out a close one in Carbondale, February 17th, 2012. Aleksas Tverijonas got the fourth win in Austin Peay’s 4-3 victory, defeating Rafael Cuadrillero 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 to clinch the match.
