Austin Peay (6-14, 1-8 OVC) surrendered 10 or more three pointers the third consecutive game, Murray State finishing with 10 three-pointers. However, it was a barrage of four straight threes that proved devastating.
Austin Peay led 50-47 with five minutes left in the second half when Alyssa Like started the barrage and tied the game 50-50. Erika Sisk followed on the next possession to give Murray State a three-point advantage. However, it was Mariah Robinson’s back-to-back three-pointers that put Murray State ahead 59-52 with two minutes left. Austin Peay would only get back within three points in the game’s final seconds.
The Lady Govs opened the game with a 14-8 run over the opening eight minutes, making 7 of their first 14 shots. However, they would make just three of their final 22 attempts as Murray State closed the half with a 22-10 run over the final 12 minutes to take a 30-24 lead into the break.
Senior Meghan Bussabarger scored Austin Peay’s first eight points to start the second half, single-handedly wiping out the Murray State lead before five minutes had elapsed. The lead would see-saw between the two teams for the next 10 minutes until Murray State took control from the three-point line.
Bussabarger recorded her season’s third double-double, finishing with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Leslie Martinez added a 19-point, nine-rebound performance. Austin Peay was hindered by a 12-of-22 performance at the free-throw line.
Robinson led Murray State with a 17-point, 14-rebound double-double performance. Sisk posted a team-best 19 points. Murray State was 10-of-32 from three-point range, Robinson making four from outside the arc.
Next Game
Austin Peay returns home to host Southeast Missouri in a 7:00pm, Monday, February 4th contest. The Lady Govs and Redhawks will wear pink in support of cancer awareness.
