He was the first emergency responder on scene and was told by the neighbors that the vehicle in the yard belonged to the woman who lived at the residence. Officer Paugh observed that all the windows were blackened by smoke and he couldn’t see inside of the residence.

As he approached the house, he could see the edges of the door were turning black from the smoke and  heat was coming from the door. He made forced entry into the residence and, initially, could not see anything inside of the residence.

He got down on hands and knees and could see someone laying on the floor in the living room. As he crawled toward the woman, he could see her legs moving, slightly. He pulled the woman towards the door and carried her out of the residence, for medical care, to EMS and Clarksville Fire Rescue who had arrived on scene.

The woman was transported by EMS to Gateway Medical Center.
