In addition to chiropractic medicine, Dunaway is a certified kinesio taping provider (CKPT). He also is certified in active release technique, commonly known as ART.

Kinesio taping uses a functional tape to assist proper biomechanics during activity. This allows the person to perform at his or her greatest potential without risk of injury or further damage to an existing injury. It is popular among elite athletes and weekend warriors, and can be beneficial to someone just starting a new exercise routine.

ART is a hands-on touch and case-management system, allowing those certified to diagnose and treat soft tissue injuries. Soft tissue refers primarily to muscle, tendon, fascia, and nerves. Injuries that are treated with this technique include repetitive strains, adhesions, tissue hypoxia and joint dysfunction.

“My mission is to take people who have forgotten what healthy feels like and, through my treatments, helpful advice, education and a family friendly office environment, work with my patients to reach their health goals,” Dunaway said. “It is truly my passion to help others achieve a life that allows them to attain whatever their goals may be, from the athlete looking at performing his highest potential to the person unable to work because of a musculoskeletal injury.”

A Missouri native, Dunaway became interested in becoming a chiropractor at an early age.

“My first experience with chiropractic came when I was in seventh grade,” he said. “I was playing summer league baseball, and rounding first base, collapsed with terrible back pain. My father took me to a chiropractor in my hometown and was back playing after one treatment. I fell in love with the idea of chiropractic and everything it encompasses.”

Clarksville Chiropractic Center is located at 1636 Madison Street next to Chick-Fil-A. Dunaway can be found on Facebook using Scott D. Dunaway DC, and on Twitter, @Dunaway_DC.
