Clarksville, TN – Janet Wilson was the recipient of the 2013 Dr. Leon Bibb Hall of Fame Scholarship during the annual Hall of Fame Breakfast at Austin Peay State University. The University inducted three new members into it’s Hall of Fame with the induction of Dr. Cooper Beazley, APSU Baseball Coach Gary McClure, and Andrew Lorentzson.
Each year the scholarship award goes to a graduate student “with excellent integrity and character, desire to complete a graduate degree at APSU and a commitment to the success of the APSU Athletics program.”
Wilson joined the APSU men’s basketball staff late last summer as director of basketball operations. She aids with the basketball player development both on and off the basketball court. She not only assists with administrating the Governors Academics, conducting study halls both on the road and at home, but also directs the program’s community involvement and marketing as well.Wilson graduated cum laude from APSU with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in August and is seeking a future role in sports administration.
Wilson was a track and cross country star at Bay Shore (N.Y.) High School. She was two-time team most valuable track performer and was cross country MVP once as well. She captured the county 800-meter championship in 1992 and then finished sixth in the state meet. She also was a member of the sixth-place 4×400-meter relay team.
Wilson also participated in statewide Empire State games in New York.
Her track exploits earned her a full scholarship at Virginia Commonwealth but stress fractures in both shins ended her track career. After leaving college, Wilson not only worked but rose the corporate ladder as well on Wall Street for 11 years, despite not owning a college degree, before coming to Clarksville in Fall 2009. She returned to school in Winter 2010, being a member of the Dean’s List her last four semesters.
She was a member of the Alpha Beta Psi Honor Society, serving as treasurer in 2011-12.
