Posted By News Staff On Wednesday, February 13, 2013 @ 12:00 pm In Events | No Comments
The Queen City Road Race event is a Clarksville tradition promoting fitness and fun for all ages. The 7K and 5K race route takes runners through the streets of Historic Downtown Clarksville, beginning and ending at Austin Peay State University’s Governors Stadium, while the One Mile Movement takes you on an exciting tour of a portion of the APSU campus.
For over thirty years, hundreds of Clarksville-Montgomery County and Fort Campbell school students, teachers and family members have participated in this Clarksville tradition.Aside from the race taking place on a Saturday, the newest addition to the Queen City Road Race is the 7K race! This year runners have the opportunity to push themselves with the 3.1 miles of the 5K race or choose to go even farther to reach a total distance of 4.35 miles with the 7K race. Runners and their spectators can also expect some pre-award excitement this year from the Clarksville Skydiving Association Parachute Demonstration Team!
Groups, schools, businesses and organizations have an opportunity for team-building by participating in the Wilma Rudolph 5K Relay Race. The relay commemorates the achievements of one of Clarksville’s most celebrated natives, Wilma Rudolph, who defied great odds to become an Olympic champion in the 1950s and ‘60s.
Rudolph overcame many adversities in her life and is best known in the athletic world for being the first woman to win three Gold Medals in a single Olympics. 5K Relay teams will consist of four runners competing in four sections of the course. The 5K Relay will be awarded by two separate age divisions; Youth (Middle School and under) and Adult (High School and older).
The Queen City Road Race is not just a running competition; it is a promotion for fitness and health in the Clarksville community. As in years past, the Queen City Road Race will include a noncompetitive, one-mile event. Participants can complete the mile at any speed or rate they choose. It doesn’t matter if you run, walk or skip the mile; just as long as you are up and moving!
