Clarksville Gas and Water reports Water Outage on Sections Buttercup Drive and Gardendale Lane

Clarksville Gas and Water DepartmentClarksville, TN – Clarksville Gas and Water has turned off water service on Buttercup Drive and Gardendale Lane to install a six-inch water valve. Construction crews expect the work to be complete and water service restored by approximately 12:00pm.

The roads are open to traffic.

Austin Peay State University softball player Laurel Burroughs named OVC Player of the Week

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceBrentwood, TN – After enjoying one of the best offensive days in school history, Austin Peay State University softball player Laurel Burroughs was named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

A sophomore second baseman from Lebanon, TN, Burroughs recorded five hits in seven at bats, Saturday, at Trevecca – a .714 batting average.

One Man’s Medal: The story of George Nishimura

George Nishimura

Clarksville, TN – George Kazuo Nishimura was an 18 year old teenager on December 7th, 1941.  He sat and watched the Japanese bombing of Wheeler Field during the bombing of Pearl Harbor.  He had no idea what was going on until he read it in the paper.

He wondered, “Why?”

He would volunteer to serve in the United States Army like so many other Japanese American men, in the famed 442nd Regimental Combat Team.

George Nishimura lives in Clarksville, and this week, he’ll be presented his bronze replica of the Congressional Gold Medal in a ceremony to honor the 90 year old veteran. «Read the rest of this article»

APSU Governors’ Anthony Campbell named OVC Player of Week; Chris Horton earns 8th OVC Freshman of the Week

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceClarksville, TN – Senior forward Anthony Campbell, who scored more than 20 points in each of Austin Peay State University‘s road victories this weekend, has been named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week.

Meanwhile, teammate Chris Horton, who recorded double-doubles in each of the Governors road wins while also becoming APSU’s single-season blocked shots record holder, has been named OVC Freshman of the Week for the eighth time.

Nashville PredatorsNashville, TN – Tuesday night marks the first of four 2012-13 regular-season meetings between the Nashville Predators and Detroit Red Wings, and the first time the teams have seen each other since Nashville’s five-game Western Conference Quarterfinals victory last spring. After falling in six games each of the first two times the Predators faced the Wings – in 2004 and 2008 – Nashville beat “big brother” in 2012 behind three consecutive wins from games No. 3-5.

The Predators opened the series with a 3-2 win on home ice in Game One, before dropping Game Two by the same score. In Detroit, the Predators claimed 3-2 and 3-1 decisions before wrapping up the series with a 2-1 win on Bridgestone Arena ice on April 20th.
