Nashville, TN – Jordin Tootoo’s return to Smashville was not what he expected tonight as his former team, the, beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 in over-time.
Nashville’s Captain Shea Weber scored the game winner just 44 seconds into overtime to give the Predators the win. The Red Wings have now dropped four straight.
Craig Smith, Gabriel Bourque, and Roman Josi all scored for the Predators tonight.The overtime winner was set up as Weber collected Colin Wilson’s rebound shot and beat Jonas Gustavsson who went diving for the puck, but to no avail. Gustavsson had replaced starting goalie Jimmy Howard.
Weber’s play has been high quality in recent games. “He’s scored in three straight games. I think for some of these big guys, it takes a little bit to get going. He’s a beast off the ice. He trains very hard off the ice. I think he needs that exhibition season,” said Predators head coach Barry Trotz. “Every night he’s playing against the top players in the world for a lot of minutes. I think he’s got his hands and feet going to help his overall game to get going. He’s a big contributor. Our defense had four goals in the last couple of games.”
Craig Smith scored the game’s first goal at 5:01 of the opening period, as the Predators were on the power play. Colin Wilson had the puck to the right of the Detroit net and slid the puck to Smith who beat a sprawling Howard on the stick side. The goal was Smith’s first of the year.
Wilson’s assist pushes his streak to five games for scoring a point in a game.
Gabriel Bourque scored at 10:41 of the first when he deflected a slap shot from Scott hannan and beat Howard again on the short side.
Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard then left the game with an upper body injury and did not return. Howard stopped five of seven shots he faced before being replaced by Gustavsson.
Daniel Cleary, Jordin Tootoo, and Pavel Datsyuk all scored for Detroit.
After two goals by Detroit, Nashville regained the lead on Roman Josi’s first goal of the season, but Datsyuk tied it again in just 36 seconds, and the game was tied at 3.

The Nashville Predators take on the Vancouver Canucks Friday, February 22nd at Bridgestone Arena. The game starts up 7:00pm.
