Fort Campbell Fitness Challenge kicks off with Health Fair, Fun Run/Walk

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Everyone is encouraged to set health and fitness goals and get moving at the first two events of the Eagle Challenge Fitness Tour, a health fair Friday and run/walk Saturday. ECFT events will continue at Fort Campbell and the surrounding communities through November.

Blanchfield Army Community Hospital and the 86th Combat Support Hospital are partnering to kick off the ECFT with a “Love Your Heart” Health Fair at the Sportsman’s Lodge near Fort Campbell’s Gate 10 from 11:00am to 7:00pm Friday, February 22nd.

The health fair will include blood pressure screenings, body fat analysis, running shoe prescriptions, trivia questions, giveaways, children’s activities and much more! The Sportsman’s Lodge will offer inexpensive healthy meal choices for lunch and dinner.

Knowledgeable health fair representatives will be promoting positive lifestyle changes at more than 20 information booths, with information about the following topics: Behavioral Health, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Dermatology, Nutrition, Heart Health, Preventive Medicine, Pediatrics, Women’s Health, Pain Management, Dental Health, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Special Events, Financial Management, Social Work, Gastroenterology, Urgent Care, Clarksville and Hopkinsville agencies, MWR Fitness and more.

During the Health Fair, community members will have an opportunity to sign up for the second event offered this weekend, Saturday’s “Love Your Heart” Run/Walk as well as all ECFT events.

The “Love Your Heart” 5k/10k Run and 1 mile Fun Run/Walk opening ceremony kicks off at 7:45am Saturday, February 23rd at Camp Hinsch, located just outside of Fort Campbell’s Gate 10. The 1 mile Fun Run/Walk starts at 8:00am with the 5k and 10k race participants following shortly after.

Registration will be available at the Health Fair Friday or online at www.fortcampbellmwr.com/ECFT. Limited registration will be available the morning of the event from 6:30am-7:30am Saturday morning. The registration fee for the 5k/10k is $10.00, and the 1 mile Fun Run/Walk is free.

Background

The 2013 Eagle Challenge Fitness Tour (ECFT) is designed to promote healthy living and lifestyles among all age categories and fitness levels.  The program will consist of a series of fitness events for Fort Campbell and the surrounding communities.

The program is intended to provide opportunities for fun, fitness and friendship, while enhancing fitness and well-being.  The end-state is to increase levels of resiliency and fitness for Soldiers and their Families, along with citizens in the surrounding communities of Fort Campbell.

The ECFT will consist of a series of 10 fitness events occurring monthly from February through November 2013, both on Fort Campbell and in the surrounding communities.  Each event will have four components to include:  adaptive reconditioning program for Soldiers; fitness opportunities for children 8 years and older; non-competitive opportunities for walkers, novice or beginners; competitive categories based on gender and age groups.

Everyone who completes eight events will receive a Commander’s Gold Medal, those who complete six will receive a Silver Medal, and those who complete four events will receive a Bronze Medal.
