After a two-week break from action, the Govs are eager for a return to dual play against the Screaming Eagles. Austin Peay has won two straight, against Abilene Christian and Chattanooga, to even its 2013 record after dropping its first two matches.
“We’ve gotten a little banged up, so this break has been good for the men,” said head coach Ross Brown. “They’re excited to get back on the court, and I think we can expect good results from them.”
Sophomore Aleksas Tverijonas has been instrumental in the Govs early-season success. The Lithuanian is 4-0 in No. 4 singles – the only Gov still undefeated – and has won his last two doubles matches with senior John Storie.
Southern Indiana is 2-1 in 2013, but was defeated by Abilene Christian, 6-3, February 7th – the same Abilene Christian squad the Govs defeated, 6-1, February 9th. Senior Ben Boesing is undefeated (3-0) in singles play for the Screaming Eagles.
The Govs have not faced Southern Indiana since 2007, when they defeated the Screaming Eagles 4-3 in Clarksville.
