Nashville Predators lose at home to the Vancouver Canucks 1-0

Nashville PredatorsNashville, TN – The Nashville Predators lost to the Vancouver Canucks at Bridgestone Arena, 1-0. Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo made 23 saves on the night to shut-out the Predators on their home ice.

Dale Weise scored the first and only goal of the night midway through the third period of play for the game winner.

Fellow Canuck Maxim Lapierre circled the net and fired a shot at Predator’s goalie Pekka Rinne, and the rebound was ripped into the net by Weise. This was the first goal of the season for Weise and just his fifth of his career.

The first two periods were scoreless. Luongo stopped 13 shots in the first period, but wasn’t too busy in the second as Vancouver shut down every opportunity the Predators tried to muster. Vancouver has won two nights in a row, as they beat the Dallas Stars 4-3 on Thursday.

Predator’s goalie Pekka Rinne stopped 23 shots on goal on the night. Rinne was tested midway through the second period when he moved out to the top of the crease to take a shot from Jannik Hansen to the midsection, after Hansen stole the puck from Nashville’s Colin Wilson.

Nashville’s best opportunity on the night came with 6:49 remaining as Wilson was left alone in the slot, but his shot went over the net.

Nashville also had a power play late, when Alexandre Burrows was called for slashing with 2:13 left in the game. The Predators didn’t get a shot on goal, even after pulling their goalie with 1:13 left in the game giving them a 6-4 skating advantage.

Nashville travels to Detroit to take on the Red Wings for the second time this week. They return home to host the Dallas Stars in Nashville on Monday night.
