After an 11-7-1 2012 regular season, the Lady Govs reached the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championship for the second time in the last three seasons before falling to UT Martin. With six seniors gone from that squad, Austin Peay will rely even more on the experience of OVC Offensive Player of the Year Tatiana Ariza and seven other seniors seeking the program’s first OVC Championship.

“I feel like we have a really well-balanced schedule,” Guth said. “We’re going to have a pretty large freshman class, so we want to make sure that those players get some experience during non-conference play.”

In preseason action, the Lady Govs host Evansville (August 14th) in a return trip from last season’s exhibition game in Evansville. Freed Hardeman also comes to Clarksville for an Aug. 16th match.

The Lady Govs kick off the regular-season with a two-game road trip to Chattanooga (August 23rd) and Appalachian State (August 25th); Austin Peay defeated those squads by a combined 7-2 margin during the 2012 non-conference slate.

Austin Peay’s 2013 regular season home opener will be August 30th when Arkansas-Little Rock comes to Morgan Brothers Field for a 7:00pm match. That will be followed by a four-match road trip beginning at Western Kentucky, September 6th, before a return to Lipscomb to take on the Lady Bisons, September 9th. The Lady Govs then head north to take on St. Bonaventure (September 13th) and Buffalo (September 15th) in the program’s first New York road trip.

“Once every three or four years, I try to do an outer-region trip for the team,” Guth said. “This was an opportunity that came up, and it worked out that we can play two good teams we’ve never played before.”

The first of two three-game home stands brings the Lady Govs into conference play. Austin Peay hosts Jackson State (September 20th) to end the non-conference schedule, then begins OVC play against UT Martin in a rematch of last season’s tournament championship, September 27th. The Lady Govs also host Southeast Missouri on OVC-opening weekend (September 29th).

The Lady Govs first conference road weekend takes them to Tennessee Tech, Octiber 4th, and Belmont, October 6th.

Austin Peay’s second three-game home stand sees Eastern Illinois (October 11th), SIU Edwardsville (October 13th) and Morehead State (October 18th) make visits to Clarksville. The Lady Govs played two epic matches against the Cougars in 2012 – a 110-minute scoreless tie in Edwardsville and a 1-0 victory in the OVC Tournament semifinals, thanks to an 85th-minute goal from Joceline Quiceno.

A final three-game road trip concludes the Lady Govs regular season. Austin Peay travels to Eastern Kentucky (October 20th), Jacksonville State (October 27th) and Murray State (November 1st). Eastern Kentucky finished third behind Austin Peay and UT Martin in 2012.

The OVC’s regular-season champion will host the conference tournament, November 8th-10th. Austin Peay has never hosted the conference tournament.
