Austin Peay State University GovernorsOrlando, FL – After a short delay, Austin Peay State University men’s golf team finally will open the Spring season in the initial Harmony Golf Preserve Intercollegiate, being played Monday-Wednesday, at the Harmony Golf Preserve.

The Govs originally were scheduled to open the 2013 Spring campaign, Friday, in a dual competition with Dayton. However, snow and cold temperatures cancelled the event.

As a result, the Govs now have headed to Florida to open the season. The 54-hole tournament will feature a pair of Florida programs, Florida Atlantic and Florida Gulf Coast, along with Virginia Commonwealth, George Washington and Villanova in addition to the Govs.

The Govs lineup will include six players, with four scores counting. Senior Dustin Korte along with juniors Anthony Bradley and Marco Iten will lead the Govs. In addition, sophomore Tucker Wallace, redshirt freshman Cleve Guinn and freshman Chris Baker will represent the Governors.

“We are looking forward to this event, and playing on a wonderful golf course like Harmony Preserve,” said APSU coach Kirk Kayden. “It will be great for the players to get out and get consecutive 18-hole rounds in, something we have not be able to do this winter here.

“With Friday’s match cancelled I am sure the guys are excited to get out and compete in Florida.  Harmony Preserve looks like on paper a golf course that you need to hit the ball in play off the tee, so our tee shots will be very important to our success.”

Built on 260 acre wildlife preserve, Harmony Preserve is the only Johnny Miller Signature-Designed Course in Central Florida. The par-72 course is expected to play at 7,200 yards.
