Olympic gold medal swimmer and heart survivor Dana Vollmer to speak at Go Red For Women Luncheon April 12th

Go Red for Women - American Red CrossNashville, TN – Olympic gold medal swimmer and heart survivor Dana Vollmer will be the keynote speaker at this year’s 10th Anniversary Go Red For Women Luncheon, to be held April 12th at Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center.

Vollmer had to overcome a potentially serious heart condition as a child, a disorder of the heart’s electrical activity, which had her mother accompanying her to swim meets armed with a defibrillator in case she went into cardiac arrest.

But at age 12, she became the youngest swimmer competing at the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials. Dana went on to become one of the stars of the 2012 London Olympics, where she set two world records and won three gold medals: in the 800-meter freestyle relay, the 400-meter medley relay and the 100-meter butterfly, becoming the first woman ever to swim that event under 56 seconds.

Vollmer is now pursuing her career as a pro swimmer and continues to train in Berkeley, CA, and represents the American Heart Association as an ambassador. Recently she was honored at the Woman’s Day Red Dress Awards, for making a significant contribution in the fight against heart disease.
