APSU Baseball’s Cody Hudson and Tyler Rogers get OVC honors

Ohio Valley ConferenceBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University senior outfielder Cody Hudson and senior closer Tyler Rogers were named the Ohio Valley Conference’s Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, Monday.

Hudson, of Germantown, TN, batted .500 (11-for-22) with a home run, 11 RBI and three stolen bases over the five-game span. He had three game-winning hits, including two walk-off hits, during the week.

He began the week with a walk-off three-run home run in the Govs victory against Michigan State, Monday. Hudson added a walk-off suicide squeeze in the 10th inning of the Govs win against Milwaukee, Saturday. He then added a game-winning two-run double in the eighth inning of APSU’s 9-8 win against Creighton.

Hudson recorded a multi-hit outing in all five games during the week (and has a streak of six such games). He was 2-for-5 with four RBI against Michigan State, 2-for-4 with three RBI against Western Kentucky, 2-for-4 with a RBI against Milwaukee, 3-for-5 with two RBI against Creighton and 2-for-4 with a RBI against UALR.

Rogers, of Littleton, CO, appeared in four of the Govs five games last week and picked up three wins and a save while allowing one unearned run in 5.1 innings pitched. He made his season’s longest outing last Monday, recording the final six outs in the Govs walk-off win against Michigan State. Rogers notched his season’s sixth save against Western Kentucky, Wednesday.

He continued his run at the Riverview Inn Classic, beginning when he pitched a scoreless 10th inning in the Govs walk-off win against Milwaukee, Friday. Rogers finished the week with the win in Saturday’s victory against Creighton, allowing an unearned run in the 9-8 victory.

Rogers won the weekly league honor for the second time during his career. It is Hudson’s first weekly OVC honor.

It is the second consecutive week Austin Peay has had a baseball player recognized in the OVC’s weekly awards. Junior Craig Massoni was named the league’s Player of the Week, March 4th.

Austin Peay improved to 13-2 with its 5-0 record last week and are ranked No. 9 in the CollegeBaseballDaily.com Mid-Major Poll. The Govs conclude their 12-game homestand with a 5:00pm, Tuesday contest against Indiana State.
