Clarksville, TN — Austin Peay State University’s softball team’s resent hitting slump continued Sunday afternoon, at Cheryl Holt Field in the final game of its three-game Ohio Valley Conference series, as it was shutout by Eastern Illinois, 6-0.
Edmonton, Ontario -The Nashville Predators are still finding it hard to win on the road as the Edmonton Oilers defeat Nashville 3-2 at Rexall Place.
Neither team managed a goal in the first period, and the only penalty in the period came on Nashville’s Craig Smith for roughing. Edmonton was out for “payback” after their visit to Nashville, where the Predators shut out the Oilers 6-0.
Clarksville’s Hanley Long and Hendersonville’s Jacob Sherlin win United States Junior Golf Tour at Swan Lake Golf Course
Clarksville, TN – The weather was the biggest challenge this weekend as 58 junior golfers from all over the south descended on Clarksville to play in the United States Junior Golf Tour held at Swan Lake Golf Course.
Hendersonville’s Jacob Sherlin and Rossview High School’s Hanley Long won the boys and girls high school division.

Fort Campbell, KY – Members from the Tennessee Titans’ community relations team took time on March 5th to visit the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment at Fort Campbell, KY, to make heartfelt contributions to the two units.
On behalf of Titans Owner K.S. “Bud” Adams, Jr. they donated $5,000 in grants to the veteran associations of the two elite organizations.

Springfield, LA – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team will face a strong test when it competes in the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate, Monday and Tuesday, in a 54-hole tournament played on the event’s namesake.
Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, March 16th, Clarksville Police responded to a 911 call about a man with a gun. A perimeter was set up to contain the man and officers evacuated neighbors in the surrounding houses. Around 4:47pm, Tactical Unit members were able to subdue the man.
The man, Gerald Bakker, was charged last night around 7:00pm for possession of a firearm while under the influence and public intoxication.

The economic data were mixed, but the stock market continued to focus on the good news and ignored the rest. Retail sales rose more than expected in February, but results varied across sectors. Industrial production picked up, following a weak January (results varied by industry).
The inflation reports showed some pressure from higher gasoline, as anticipated, and moderate core inflation. Treasury reported a smaller deficit than a year ago. Initial claims for unemployment benefits continued to trend lower. Consumer sentiment fell in the mid-March assessment, with a sharp decline in expectations (down to a 15-month low).
The Dow Jones Industrials Average continued to new record highs, up 10 sessions in a row. In contrast to the optimism expressed in equities, bond yields have remained relatively low. «Read the rest of this article»
