Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department now offering Lifeguard Certification to the public

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department will offer its first Lifeguard Certification Course for non-staff participants seeking the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification.

This course will take place at the Indoor Aquatic Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, March 25th-29th from 2:00pm until 8:00pm.

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course provides entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical service personnel can take over.

Course content and exercises will prepare participants to make appropriate decisions about the care to provide in an aquatic or medical emergency.

Participants must be at least 15 years of age and will be asked to swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for two minutes without the use of arms or hands and swim 20 yards and retrieve a ten-pound weight from 12 feet of water in less than one minute and forty seconds.

Participants may register online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com, the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Main Office, located at 102 Public Square, or at the Indoor Aquatic Center. The cost for this course is $200.00.
