The Governors (23-5) had fallen behind 2-0 after the Bisons broke-up a 0-0 tie in the top of the fourth inning, but answered right back in the bottom of the inning with three runs to take a lead they would never relinquish.

Lipscomb (10-20) was able to get the first two Govs out in the inning, but Britte Underwood – getting a rare start behind the plate for P.J. Torres – laced a ball down the right field line for a two-out triple.

Number-nine hitter Kevin Corey would follow with a walk, which brought up the leadoff hitter Rolando Gautier.

Rolando GautierGautier would take advantage of the opportunity, as he blasted a 1-0 pitch over the right-center field fence for his first home run of the season, and gave Austin Peay a 3-2 lead.

The score would remain that way until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Govs pushed across three more runs to go up 6-2.

Gautier and Dylan Riner would open the inning with back-to-back singles, followed by a walk to Jordan Hankins to load the bases with no outs.

Craig Massoni would follow with a chopper over the shortstops head for an RBI single for the first run of the inning.

Craig MassoniThe next two runs came in without the benefit of a base hit, with Riner coming in on a wild pitch and Hankins on an error by Lipscomb shortstop Joey Cecere.

The Bisons would cut into the Govs lead in the top of the eight scoring twice to make it 6-4.

Taylor Stewart would reach on an error by Corey, to lead off the inning and move to second base on an infield out.

Zach Lowery and Noah Chandler would then receive back-to-back walks to load the bases – with just one out.

That brought up Tyson Ashcraft, who singled through the left side of the Govs infield to drive in Stewart and Lowery.

But that would be as close as the Bisons would get, with Hunter Lindley getting a double play to get out of the inning without any more damage, and closer Tyler Rogers pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his 11th save of the season to seal away the win.

Gautier, Hankins and Underwood would all finish with two hits each to lead the Governors offensive attack, while Govs starter Zach Hall got the win – going the first six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. He also struck out four and walked one.

The win was also Austin Peay head coach Gary McClure’s 775 career win, one short of tying former Murray State head coach Johnny Reagan for the Ohio Valley Conference all-time lead in victories.

Zach HallLipscomb would take its only lead of the game in the fourth inning scoring twice.

The inning started off much like the first three for Hall, as he retired the first two Bisons hitters on a popup and a ground ball, but Lowery got on via a slow chopper, good for an infield single.

A couple of pitches later, it looked like Hall had Lowery picked off, as Lowery broke for second and Hall threw to first, but Massoni couldn’t get the ball out of his glove and Lowery was safe at second with a stolen base.

Chandler would follow with a double over the bag at third and down the left field line for a double, scoring Lowery.

Ashcraft made it 2-0, as he ripped a triple into the gap in right center, driving in Chandler.

The Govs return to action April 3rd, as they travel to Bowling Green, KY to face Western Kentucky University for a 6:00pm contest.
