Tennessee Titans Agree to Terms with Wide Receiver Kevin Walter, Center/Guard Chris Spencer

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms on one-year contracts with a pair of unrestricted free agents, wide receiver Kevin Walter and center/guard Chris Spencer.

“Both Kevin and Chris are established veterans in this league who have a great deal of starting experience,” said Titans general manager Ruston Webster. “They have made significant contributions on good teams during their careers. We feel like they can come in and provide increased competition at their respective positions for us.”

Walter (6-3, 217) has 152 games of NFL experience and 93 starts during his 10-year career. His career totals include 356 receptions for 4,379 yards and 25 touchdowns. He spent the last seven seasons with the Houston Texans (2006-12) after playing three years with the  Cincinnati Bengals (2003-05).

The owner of four 50-reception seasons and three 100-yard receiving games during his career, his best season was in 2008, when he tallied 60 receptions for 899 yards and eight scores. Last season, he recorded 41 grabs for 518 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games.

Walter entered the NFL as a seventh-round selection (255th overall) by the New York Giants in the 2003 NFL Draft.  He was waived by the Giants following his first training camp and claimed by the Cincinnati Bengals. In 2006, he signed as a free agent with the Texans.

A native of Vernon Hills, IL, Walter finished his career at Eastern Michigan University as the school’s all-time leader in receptions (211) and receiving yards (2,838).

Spencer (6-3, 309) is a veteran of eight NFL seasons. The former first-round pick spent six years with the Seattle Seahawks (2005-10) before playing the last two years with the Chicago Bears (2011-12). He has 105 career games and 89 total starts under his belt, including 62 starts at center, 19 starts at right guard and eight starts at left guard.

In 2012, he appeared in 10 games with five starts (three at left guard, two at right guard) for the Bears.

Spencer was selected by the Seahawks with the 26th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft following a three-year career at Ole Miss. As a junior for the Rebels, he earned honorable mention All-SEC honors from the Associated Press. He is a native of Madison, MS.
