The Lady Govs already have played two spring dates, at Murray State’s Indoor Invitational, March 2nd, and defeating Vanderbilt, 2-1, March 24th, at Morgan Brothers Field. Emily Kink and Tatiana Ariza scored against the Commodores, with Ariza netting the game-winner.

“I thought our Vanderbilt performance was strong,” Guth said. “The spring is a great time for to get everyone some minutes and some experience. Not having a lot of depth gives everyone a chance to play.”

With only 11 field players and two goalkeepers, the Lady Govs depth has been tested during the spring. Guth has enjoyed the opportunity to move people into spots they wouldn’t normally play.

“It’s opened up some opportunities to move around,” Guth said. “Kink and Taylor Van Wagner are playing center back for us, which they did a little bit last year, and they’re getting back accustomed to that. It’s giving some players an opportunity in the team structure to prove themselves.”

Austin Peay hosts Western Kentucky 5:00pm, Saturday, as part of the athletic department’s Celebration of Women in Athletics weekend, which honors the 40th anniversary of Title IX in college athletics.

“This is a great event to celebrate our athletics and how much has changed,” Guth said. “There’s been a lot of growth both on campus and in athletics. It’s a great opportunity to recognize not just our program but all of athletics and to honor those that helped make these opportunities possible for our athletes.”

The Lady Govs continue the spring season for a play day at Western Kentucky, April 13th, against Belmont (11:30am) and Middle Tennessee (3:30pm) before closing out the spring schedule against OVC foe Southeast Missouri, 5:00pm, April 19th, at Morgan Brothers Field.
