APSU Governors Tennis host crucial OVC matches against Tennessee State, Belmont this weekend

APSU Sports: Austin Peay Men’s Tennis

Austin Peay State University Governors SportsClarksville, TN – Coming into the home stretch of the 2013 spring season, Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team looks to continue its march to the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament with weekend matches against Tennessee State (1:00pm, Saturday) and Belmont (2:00pm, Sunday).

The Govs program-best 11-match win streak has seen them rack up a staggering amount of victories. Austin Peay is 25-3 in singles and 10-1 in doubles during conference play, with four athletes (Sean Bailey, Jasmin Ademovic, Dimitar Ristovski and Aleksas Tverijonas) 9-1 or better in their last 10 matches. Tverijonas remains undefeated during spring dual play at 13-0; he hasn’t been forced to a third set since March 5 against Lipscomb.

The Govs haven’t dropped a point in match play since March 17th against Morehead State. Last season, Austin Peay swept Tennessee State, 7-0, April 6th, but dropped two matches to then-Atlantic Sun foe Belmont, Jan. 25th.

Tennessee State (0-10, 0-6 OVC) continues to search for its first team win this season. In seven of its 10 matches, the Tigers have failed to pick up a point. The Govs also play a 10:30 a.m. match against the Tigers that will not count toward the conference standings.

Belmont (4-11, 3-3 OVC) has fared better in its first season as an OVC member, but has a precarious hold on the No. 6 spot in the conference with just three conference matches remaining. The top spot for the Bruins has been a pit of despair this season, with Renato Antun and Henrique Norbiato combining to go 2-12 at No. 1 singles.
