Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Several years ago, Austin Peay State University got into the book publishing business with the founding of Zone 3 Press. The literary press started out as a publisher of contemporary poetry, but it has recently moved into releasing groundbreaking new works of creative non-fiction.

This month, the press will present its first new collection of essays, “Quench Your Thirst with Salt,” by Nicole Walker.

Walker, winner of the 2011 Zone 3 Press Creative Nonfiction Book Award, will read from her new work at 8:00pm, April 11th, in the APSU Morgan University Center, room 303. A reception and book signing will follow. The event is free and open to the public.

The award-winning writer Robin Hemley recently praised the collection’s unique ability to meld memoir, poetry and cultural analysis into a moving reading experience.

“Quench Your Thirst with Salt,” by Nicole Walker“By turns wry, elegiac, and always elegant in its precision and force,” Hemley wrote, “Walker investigates all that is contradictory and curious in the micro climate of her immediate family and the macro climate of Utah to create not a dry treatise, not a windless flight of experimental prose, but a natural history of thirst in all its manifestations, at once compulsively readable and intensely personal.”

Walker, an associate professor of poetry and creative nonfiction at Northern Arizona University, is the author of the poetry collection “This Noisy Egg.” Her poems and essays have appeared in the literary journals Gulf Coast, Ninth Letter, Crazyhorse, Fourth Genre, The Pinch and the Sonora Review.
