APSU Lady Govs Golf fires best Tournament round of spring at EKU Colonel Classic

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsRichmond, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team shot its spring low round, Saturday, but could not move up in the final standings of the EKU Colonel Classic, played at the Arlington Golf Club.

The Lady Govs shot a final-round 309 to end at 938 to take eighth place in the tournament. Toledo won the event with an 893 while Ball State was a distant second at 914. Host Eastern Kentucky finished one stroke back.

Junior Rachel Deaton had the Lady Govs’ team best tourney round, Saturday, shooting a 1-over 73 to finish at 233, tying her for 24th. The best overall finishes, however, came from sophomore Meghan Mueller (80–75-77) and Tabitha Beard (75-79-78), who tied for 19th at 232. Lauren Bond (241) and Jessica Cathey (250).

APSU’s best tourney score and round came from an individual. Junior Tala Mumford, who was the Lady Govs’ top golfer early last fall, finished with a 70—also the tourney’s low round. As a result, she finished tied for eighth with a 228 (80-78-70).

Senior Holly Batey, also playing as an individual, never could gain any momentum and finished at 253.
