Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team picked up two vital victories against Tennessee State, Saturday, defeating the Tigers 4-0 (non-conference) and 6-1 at the Austin Peay Tennis Courts.
Austin Peay (8-11, 4-4 OVC) evened its record to remain in the hunt for an Ohio Valley Conference Tournament berth. The Tigers of Tennessee State fall to 0-10 (0-7 OVC).
In Saturday morning non-conference action, Alison Carre and Andra Cornea took the top two singles matches, both winning 6-0, 6-0, while Jovana Karac was challenged at No. 3 before winning 6-3, 4-1.
Lady Govs thoroughly dispatched Tennessee State in the afternoon tilt. With only four Tigers dressed for action, the Lady Govs took two points automatically due to default, and won the doubles point thanks to wins by a Carre-Vanessa Tavares No. 1 pairing (8-0 over Shardel Suber and Attallah Eiland) and Karac and Cornea (8-2 over London Thomas and Kryston Mason) at No. 2.
Cornea, Carre and Tavares were the top three seeds for the Lady Govs in conference play, and took their respective matches in 6-0, 6-0 straight sets.
The Lady Govs host Belmont, 10:00am, Sunday, in its second-to-last home match in 2013.
